DAS? Eh?
The Plot
KIn the game, YOU play the part of - clean cut, shade wearing,
/ Bud Lightning
Aall round nice-guy (except he doesn't wear shades) as he tries to
Nsave a Primitive Tribe from extinction after his base is destroyed by the Evil
LStingons. Along the way, you do a whole lot of other stuff, such as capture
Nsmall furry creatures, kill aliens, negotiate dark forests and mountain sides,
Ldiscover Lost Alien Cities and generally save the Universe from Destruction.
GYou may remember the Stingons from . Yes, they are the same
. Starbase 13
KStingons. In fact, the whole universe is the same - the UP and everything.
GAnother link is that Bud is an old academy friend of Yeno Hou's younger
6brother, Duno Hou. This is not mentioned in the game.

LControl is via the mouse. To make Bud walk, move the mouse pointer to where
9you want Bud to walk to, and click the left mouse button.
DThe icons in the control screen (pictures of keys, a mouth, etc) are
Kverbs; click on a verb, and then an object, and Bud will perform the action
Kon the object. For example, if you clicked on Dexter Fletcher, then on the
JKill button, Bud would crush Dexter into his component atoms. Needless to
Hsay, this example is not contained in the game. But only because I just
told you what to do.
FTo use a verb, click on the appropriate icon with the left button, and
Lthen the object with the RIGHT button. Otherwise, Bud will simply walk over
to it. An object is either:
! - A thing in a room, eg. a table
H - A word in the inventory (the large black window in the control panel)
HMove the mouse over the object or word, and it's name will appear in the
$smaller window of the control panel.

The verb icons are as follows:
EXAMINE (an eye)
M - Click an object in a room, and Bud will walk over to it and describe it to
you.
TAKE (an upwards-pointing arrow)
- Take an object.
#OPERATE (an arrow pushing a button)
- Operate a single object.
(USE (an arrow pushing a key into a hole)
H - Use one object on another. The first object is usually held in Bud's
J inventory. It can also be used to give an object to another character.
TALK TO (a mouth)
H - Talk to another character. Various phrases are offered; click on one
with the left mouse button.
?EXAMINE - Click an object in a room, and Bud will walk over and
describe it to you.
TAKE - Take an object.
"OPERATE - Operate a single object.
=USE - Use one object on another. The first object is usually
?held in Bud's inventory. It can also be used to give an object
to another character.
9TALK TO - Talk to another character. Various phrases are
1offered; click on one with the left mouse button.

OFirst, create a disk called 'saves' through Workbench (see Workbench manual for
Ninfo on how to do this). If you have a hard drive, you don't need to do this.
MTo save a game, press SHIFT and F1 - F10. Press either the left mouse button
/to confirm this, or the right button to cancel.
PTo load a game, press F1 - F10, and then the mouse in the same way as the above.
?If a saved game is not found, the game will continue as normal.
:Floppy owners will then be asked to 'Insert Volume Saves'.
#Up to 10 saved games are available.
LA saved game can be loaded at any time, but saving is not available during a
4cut-scene (when the player has no control over Bud).
HMake sure you have not got Caps Lock on; the computer will think you are
Ipressing SHIFT, and will save a game instead of loading it. Frustrating.

JExamine everything. This will give vital clues as to the object's use, if
Mit has one. There are plenty of red herrings about, eg. false leads, useless
Lobjects (such as IBM-compatible PC's and Bill Gates), but all of the puzzles
Hare logical (Captain). The key to success, apparently, is to think like
John.
< DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY.

7The minimum system requirements for The Experiment are:
- Workbench 2.04+
- 1 megabyte RAM
- A mouse
=A basic A600 will do, but a souped-up A500 could run it, too.
It plays best with:
! - A second disk drive/hard drive
- A monitor
- An accelerator
- Fast RAM.
Eyeballs help too.

Future releases:
@More Bud Lightning games may feature,but... Unfortunately, as a
Eside-effect of GRAC V2.00's sprite-scaling (this is John's fault, not
IGRAC's), you may notice that when Bud faces left or right, he looks quite
Isuspiciously like a banana. Not a very well formed banana, either. This
Kbanana definitely would not make Banana Man, or even Bananarama. Bud is an
/IMPOSTER BANANA. And lo! He must be re-drawn.

Ant's Imitate-A-Guide (TM)
Supplied with The Experiment.
HThis program was written in 5 hours. The libraries, datatypes and other
Fstuff that is needed to make AmigaGuide files work on a Workbench 2.04
Gmachine were not distributable, so I wrote the WHOLE GODDAM FILE MYSELF
Ein Blitz Basic 2.1. It was TEDIOUS! But, nevertheless, despite some
Iapparent bugs in Blitz (Run out of memory = crash? Quit Blitz and crash?
KARGH!), I have now finished and all those annoying people who don't upgrade
Mcan now, for the first time, experience an AmigaGuide file on their computer.
&Oh, for a world where people upgraded.
Sigh.
'Ant's AmigaGuide/HTML Hybrid Guide (TM)
Supplied with The Experiment.
MThis program is provided for those in the Amiga Community (what's left of it)
Nwho actually take the time to upgrade their computers. It's my vision of what
Han updated AmigaGuide should look like, but a bit slower and not as well
Kprogrammed. (It's only supposed to be a short document! What do you want?
Blood coloured CHEESE?!)

MThis document is very easy to use. If you need help, I suggest three things:
' 1. Try to become 'Computer literate'.
2. Try to become literate.
2 3. If both [1] and [2] fail, try a psychiatrist.
@If you follow these basic steps, you will become a Happy Camper.
PIf life has become too much for you, and you just can't complete the Experiment,
